Easy to make handmade Valentines Gifts for Baby!

It’s important in our home that we tell the children every day how much we love them. Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time every year to make something for your children that will remind them as they grow older how much you love them.

I really am crazy about all things handmade (that’s why I am so lucky to own my handmade baby bow boutique!)

I often have an idea of something special that I’d like to make for the children – sometimes for their bedrooms or the playroom or elsewhere in the house. The idea consumes me until I finally make it!

Here are a couple of very simple gifts that you could make for your special little person this Valentine’s Day.

Why not make them a handmade canvas for their bedroom or nursery? I handmade the two canvases below last year for my little prince and princess. They really brighten up what was once a dull wall in our dining room. And more importantly, the children will have them forever as a keepsake and reminder of how much their mum loves them :-)

The canvases were very easy to make. You can buy blank canvases from many places including Dunelm Mill and Ebay. I wrapped the canvases in cuttings of scrap material and then picked one of my favourite photos of the kids to place in the centre of the canvas as my inspiration. And I started from there. I am lucky to have a craft room full of embellishments from making baby headbands and baby hair clips. But again you can easily source whatever you want from Ebay and various craft stores. I used a mix of ribbon, bows, buttons and scrapbooking cards to decorate the canvases. I only use hot glue as a rule for this type of work. The great thing about making something like this is how totally unique it is for you and also the sheer sense of accomplishment you will feel once it is complete!

Another easy to make baby gift idea is to paint and decorate wooden letters that make up your baby’s name. I sourced my blank wooden letters from Ebay (the bigger the size of the letters the better. I choose freestanding letters). Then simply go to your local craft or stationery store and choose the paint colour that you prefer. I use acrylic paint on wood. Then simply decorate with whatever embellishments you prefer. Again, I am lucky to have a huge range of embellishments from making baby hair accessories. However, your local craft store will have a selection of diamonte, ribbons, buttons, bows and much more for you to choose from.

I hope I have managed to give some inspiration to you. The one thing I can guarantee is that you will love making them and more importantly your children will have them to cherish forever.
